Seoul, South Korea

The objective of this testing session was to evaluate the performance of the EcoMESH adiabatic pre-cooling system in a hot, humid urban environment.

Seoul presented the perfect opportunity, with high summer temperatures and moderate-to-high relative humidity.

An important factor with this installation was that while the local weather ambient was measured at 30°C, the actual unit ambient temperature at the condenser face was 35°C. This was shown to be due to the heat rejection from the HVAC equipment itself, and furthermore, other surrounding units in close proximity.

This site illustrates the "artificial ambient" effect common on rooftops and present in densely packed installations, where units operate in significantly hotter conditions than the natural environment. This effect is often referred to as the domino effect.

Below is a visual graphic showcasing this impact and how EcoMESH offers a significant benefit:
EcoMESH domino effect cooling - after
The installed EcoMESH systems delivered highly effective cooling, achieving a 6°C reduction across the mesh and bringing the unit operating ambient down from 35°C to 29°C. This not only eliminated the artificial heat gain but also delivered air cooler than the true local ambient.

The chart below provides a visual representation of the recorded temperature drop across the units tested on:

Energy Reduction & Payback

The Seoul installation demonstrated not only strong cooling performance but also measurable energy savings. By reducing the operating ambient from 35°C to 29°C, EcoMESH lowered compressor strain and improved overall system efficiency.

These results show that EcoMESH is not just a cooling enhancement, but a proven cost-saving investment. The system is able to deliver a rapid return on investment while continuing to generate long-term reductions in operating costs and carbon emissions.

All figures at this installation were collected and measured by the customer.

Conclusion

The EcoMESH testing in Seoul highlighted not only EcoMESH’s strong cooling ability, but also its capacity to boost the performance of HVAC equipment, especially where units experience significantly higher artificial ambient conditions due to dense HVAC equipment layouts.

With the unit ambient 5°C hotter than the local weather, EcoMESH reduced intake air temperature by 6°C, outperforming natural ambient and delivering cooler-than-weather airflow to the system.

This installation demonstrates EcoMESH’s ability to:

  • Lower compressor load and energy consumption.
  • Prolong equipment lifespan by reducing thermal stress.
  • Prevent high-temperature shutdowns.
  • Maintain performance in humid climates where conventional evaporative systems struggle.

EcoMESH stands out as a proven retrofit solution for commercial and industrial applications across South Korea and the wider Asian market, offering reliable protection against both natural and artificial ambient heat challenges.
